Mati, Davao Oriental Weekend Itinerary: Budget Travel Guide 2018

Salt in the air, sand in my hair - just two reasons why I can’t get enough of the beach. It is always my go to place when I want to de-stress and take a break from everything. There’s just something so calming and so natural about the sea that makes everything so much better, right?

Mati is a breathtaking province in Davao Oriental. This paradise is only 2-3 hours drive away from Davao City proper and you can enjoy the charming sea with powdery sand, scenic landscapes, and huge waves. It is also known for surfing and skim-boarding, but there are still a lot of things that this place can offer. What I personally like about the whole place is its peaceful and laid-back vibes.

HOW TO GET THERE?

🚗If you will be travelling by a private car, it will only take you 2-3 hours drive from Davao City.
🚌From Ecoland Terminal, Davao City, you can ride either van or bus. Just a heads up, travel time is longer due to the stopovers. Fare for the van is between Php 230-Php250 and travel time is around 3-4 hours. For bus, fare is around Php 200-Php220 with 5-6 hours travel time.

HOW TO GET AROUND?

🔸There a lot of tricycles or motorcycles that can take you to places. Commuting in Mati is not hassle at all. You can hire habal-habal drivers for a city tour. Rate is around Php 400 -Php 500 but it is negotiable. *winks* For tricycles, fare is around Php 20 - Php 50 depending on your destination.

⛺️WHERE TO STAY?

Our group stayed at Dahican Surf Resort/Surf Shack Dahican. What I like the most about this place is that it gives me Siargao vibes and the beach is just few steps away from your accommodation. Imagine waking up to the sound of the waves and witnessing the beautiful sunrise. Aghhh.

In our case, we stayed in a non-airconditioned room good for 5 pax for only Php 2500. If you’re going to do the math, it only costs Php 500/head. They have free pillow and a blanket already. Not bad, right? Another tip, travelling in big groups is also highly recommended, so that you could split the costs.

You can also bring your own tents and pay Php 300 only for an overnight stay.
